Annual Membership Options


 

In an effort to be more inclusive and offer programming to the broader paddling community, CKBC provides the following membership options:


 

1. Member Club Option

Member Club Renewal occurs each year on April 1st. New Clubs will be accepted into the membership year round, but all memberships expire on March 31 of each year. 

Definition - Member Club - Clubs, Societies, or other Associations who are accepted into the membership by the Board of Directors of the Society, by a resolution of the Board, or such other manner that may be determined by the Directors from time to time.

 A Club, Society or Association may apply to become a Member Club by:

  1. Paying a Club Membership Fee
    • New Club - $250 (1st year of membership) 
    • Existing Member Club - $800 ($200 rebate for Blue Ribbon Program)
  2. Completed CKBC member club renewal information which includes all of the following (completed on-line by way of your club's RAMP Registration portal):
  • Club and programming information
  • Current board of directors and coach contact information
  • Completed Membership Compliance Form
  • Most recent club annual report (suitable for inclusion in CKBC's annual report)
  • Current Confirmation of Filing with the BC Registries and Online Services
  • Most recent AGM minutes
  • Current constitution and by-laws 
  • Certificate of Incorporation 
  • If your club has a boat loan with CKBC the following information is also required to complete your on-line registration
    • Income & Expense Statement
    • Balance Sheet

Clubs that have not renewed their membership by April 30 will not be registered as members and will not receive the associated member services (notably insurance coverage).


 

2. Individual Membership Option

Individual Memberships are one year in duration, and good for one (1) year from the day of acceptance into the membership.

Definition - Individual Membership - an individual member who is accepted into the CKBC membership by joining a specific discipline, or group. A single designate from each specific Individual Membership discipline holds one vote in CKBC. The discipline or group is established by the Board of Directors each year. 

The benefits of an individual membership are for those who wish to access services, programs and support from CKBC including, but not limited to, insurance coverage for race entries, coaching clinics, specialty clinics, and much more. Individual Members must abide by CKBC Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures during Sanctioned CKBC Events.

The intention of the Individual Membership option is for Individuals who are not able to be part of a local club and wish to have membership to participate in sanctioned events. Individual membership directly with CKBC is not to take away from local clubs, but rather provide opportunities for those areas of the Province where a local club is not located. 

  • 2024.25 Groups/Disciplines:

    • Surf Ski 
      • $20/year
      • Liability insurance during sanctioned events
      • Access to coaching and specialty clinics at member rates
    • Marathon
      • $35/year (includes Canoe Kayak Canada Competitive Member fee)
      • Liability insurance during sanctioned events
      • Access to coaching and specialty clinics at member rates
    • SUP
      •  $20/year
      • Liability insurance during sanctioned events
      • Access to coaching and specialty clinics at member rates
    • Whitewater Recreational
      • $20/year
      • Access to coaching and specialty clinics at member rates
      • NOTE: Liability insurance during sanctioned events is at an additional cost as this is a recreational membership
    • Flatwater / Sprint 
      •  $20/year
      • Access to coaching and specialty clinics at member rates
      • NOTE: Liability insurance during sanctioned events is at an additional cost as this is a recreational membership

 

3. Educational Membership Option

Educational memberships are one year in duration, and good for one (1) year from the day of acceptance into the membership.

Definition - Educational Member - a member who is accepted into the membership which is an established educational institution within the Province of BC. 

The benefits of an educational membership include access to CKBC’s programming including, but not limited to, coaching clinics, school based programs, Indigenous programs, specialty clinics and additional benefits at member pricing.

  • $250 Annual Fee
  • No voting rights at the CKBC Annual General Meeting.
  • Educational membership assumes the programming is sanctioned and insured by the local School District and/or supported by the Ministry of Education. 
  • Members must abide by all other CKBC Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures.
  • Membership is as a recreational member. This membership does not allow members to compete in Provincial or National championships in the Sprint discipline.
  • No Individual membership fees would apply.
  • Insurance coverage would be for CKBC Sanctioned Programming only (i.e. CKBC Coaching Clinics, Paddle Programs, etc.). 
  • Educational Membership does not include access to regular CKBC funding opportunities (i.e. Regional Development Grant, etc.). From time to time CKBC may have funding opportunities directly dedicated to Educational Programs and this would be outlined within the Grant RFP. 

4. Commercial Membership Option

Commercial memberships are one year in duration, and good for one (1) year from the day of acceptance into the membership.

Definition - Commercial Membership - a member who is accepted into the membership who is a commercial, private, or business community. 

The benefits of a commercial membership are for those who wish to access services, programs, and support from CKBC including, but not limited to, coaching clinics, school based programs, Indigenous Programs, Specialty Clinics, collaborative marketing efforts, and additional benefits at member pricing.

  • $350 Annual Fee
  • No voting rights, while it is a pilot project, at the CKBC Annual General Meeting.
  • Commercial Members must abide by all other CKBC Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures during Sanctioned CKBC Events.
  • Membership is as a recreational member. This membership does not allow members to compete in Provincial or National championships in the Sprint, or Whitewater discipline. Other discipline restrictions may apply.
  • Insurance coverage would be for CKBC Sanctioned Programming only (i.e. CKBC Coaching Clinics, Paddle Programs, Sanctioned Races, etc.). 
  • Commercial Membership does not include access to Regular CKBC Funding opportunities (i.e. Regional Development Grant, etc.). From time to time CKBC may have funding opportunities directly dedicated to Educational Programs and this would be outlined within the Grant RFP. 
  • Other CKBC Member Benefits may apply.
